Goodbye scrolls and off to Jerusalem. Martin slept most of
the way and took no photos there, but on the way back. First
view of Jerusalem from Olive Mountain. |
Getsemane Garden as seen from the Olive Mountain.
Martin having a look over Jerusalem with the golden dome of the Mosque in
the background. |
Another church around the corner in the outskirts of
Getsemane Garden. An old Jewish churchyard the Jordanians
made a road through and use the grave stones as cobble stones. Nice guys. |
Dominus Flevit or the Tear Church in Getsemane where Jesus
cried over what would happen to Jerusalem during the uprising.
Old coffins used to store bones. The let the body rot till all the meat was
off and then but the bone in these coffins. All the length of the tigh bone. |

Dominus Flevit or the Tear Church in Getsemane seen from the
outside. The dome of the church taken from the inside.
Impressive. |
Some rare model from the 15th century made in Germany inside
the church. The view through the iron gates taken from
inside the church. |
Outside the church, a cactus Martin met many times on his
visit to the Canary Islands in Spain. They feel kind of homely.
There are unfriendlies around. It is necessary to keep them out and broken
glass helps. But all you do is to put a mattress on top and over the top you
go. |
Old olive tree, said to grow on the seeds of the trees that
were there in Jesus' time. And old they are. Close to 2000
years, if true. |
Communion in the Franciscan church. It's a
church in the Gethsemane garden, run by the Franciscan monks. |
And this is the church from the outside. The
inscription outside the church. |
Martin's hat is nicer. The tear drop church
from a distance. Cute. |
Martin and the Judas tree. Under this kind of bush, Judas
kissed Jesus when he betrayed him. The Western Wall. The
Israeli fought fiercely here, both in 1948 and in 1956. The first time they
didn't succeed, but the second time, the took control over old part of
Jerusalem. |
Some orthodox Jews were these funny hats to be different. In
Eastern Europe, they were always treated different than others, and they
said, to hell with it, let's be different. Therefore the hats on the
Sabbath.
The Wailing Wall that the Israelis won in 1956. Before
that, the Muslim used this place as a rubbish dump. Nice Jallas. |

Overview over the surrounding of the Wailing Wall.
An overview over the Wailing Wall itself. |

Time to go to our hotel. This is just outside the Old City.
Our hotel after an very long and informational day. Our guide, Marie was
fantastic all the time. But it was nice to go to bed early. The legs were
sore. |
