First impressions:
This was Martin's second visit to Cyprus in two three months. The first was from
May 14 to the 21st, 2007.
Not much had changed.
What really made you happy was the efficient way they
checked your passport. No extra forms, no extra payments, just a friendly
officer just glancing at your passport.
Weather:
It was a hot as it is on Cyprus during the Summer , from 34 - 39O Centigrade.
A little bit to hot
for a Northerner. Even when overcast, it was a pleasant temperature and not
humid. Actually it has been a drought the whole year so far.
The people:
What makes a trip in addition to the country is the people you meet and the
first impressions were very friendly and forthcoming. And so they were. Even
Swedes were nice in Cyprus. Some of them.
Commercialization:
Cyprus has a history of invasion by the Turks in 1974 that divided the island.
Look at the map of the island.
Martin stayed at a little place called Fig Bay.
This is a tourist city build entirely after 1974 for the tourists. And it is
heavily commercialized as the picture shows.
But there are neither any pushy salesmen nor any beggars as
opposed to Egypt and Goa.
Recommendations:
Martin really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere in the town. People are nice and
friendly and know their future lie with the tourists. You feel welcome and
Martin wouldn't mind taking another trip. But it is not recommended during
Summer.
