Summing it all up.

TanyasPhotos

Thursday, we visited the unfinished obelisk, the Philae Temple of Isis, the Aswan dams and the Nubian village.

Started walking up to the obelisk.

Cutting a big rock like that out of the granite by hand is quite a task. It cracked so the workmen left it unfinished.

A better view of the cut-out.

On to the Philae temple on an island in Lake Nasser. It was moved before the dam was filled up.

The temple seen from the lake.

More pharaoh carvings.

At the foot of the carving. Martin T and Jorunn.

View downstream from the Island of Philae and the temple of Isis.

Armoured shields used by the AK boys while opening fire. Never been used so far since no impact dents were spotted in the shield.

More carvings in the temple walls. What a job.

Nice stones in the Nile.

View to the East bank of the Nile.

The temple seen from the Nile on our return journey.

Making glass bottles at the glassworks where they also had a huge perfume factory.

Tanya shopping for perfume.

Martin, Jorunn and Berit in the mirror in the perfume shop.

Tanya and her friendly salesman at the shop.

On the dam wall. Martin, Jorunn and Tanya.

Lake Nasser, the biggest manmade lake in the world.

What you see is a dry dock of sorts with a ship in it. Hardly in use by the look of it.

And road blocks were put up all over the place.

Details of the construction of the dam. Started building in 1960 and finished in 1971.

The monument put up by the Soviets to commemorate the friendship between the Egyptian and Russians.

Details of the power plant, supplying electricity to most of Egypt.

On the boat again across the Nile for a camel ride and to visit the Nubian village.

Our boat, Magic 1 seen from the Nile.

A typical Nile boat.

Sand dunes next to the Nile.

Nice mix of sand and water.

And kiddies play around the boat and getting a hitch.

Rocky shore.

Fast stream below the dams. There are two of them. One build in 1902 and 11 meters tall and the High Dam, finished in 1971 by the help of the Soviets at the time. This one is 111 meters tall.

Tanya is off to her camel ride.

BOAC, Better On A Camel.

A friendly camel wanting a hug.

And it's not giving in to Tanya's refusal.

Back to the boat while Tanya is having her ride.

The flock on their camel ride tour to the Nubian village.

Tanya arriving in the Nubian village.

Tanya enjoying her royal entrance to the town.

And the camel was a friendly beast.

And getting off was a little more difficult than getting on the camel. But with a friendly hand here and there, it worked fine.

Safely on the ground again.

And a visit to the local school to learn some Arabic.

The classroom was very sparce.

Our Guide Abrahm and the local teacher, sticks in hand.

The equipment wasn't much, just a blackboard and some chalk.

And of course his stick. Stern old man, that went on a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca and earned the title Hajj.

And never standing still teaching us the Nubian alphabet.

And the locals had crocks for pets.

Somebody touching the crock. Not a good idea.

Nubian house from the inside.

Another view from inside the house with Daddy Martin and the two tour guides, Abrahm and Anna from Sweden.

Sunset on the way back. Notice that the sun disk is turned completely black. Effects of taking the photo straight into the sun.

Tanya, having a higher quality digital camera doesn't make the sun disk black.

Tanya happy on the roof of the boat on the way back to Magic 1.

The hotel where Agatha Christie wrote her book, Death on the Nile.

The next day Friday, we finished the web presentations so far and visited the botanical garden.
