To the left, and old, dilapidated Portuguese
church. There are many of them in Goa. To the right, one of
the most commonest sight in India, cow in the street. They are holy. Since
the Hindus believe in reincarnation, it may be your old granny that died
last year. Nice thought. |
Nizmar, the hotel Martin
stayed at during April 2007.
Then
it was off to Panaji, the capital of Goa to pick up Arne, a younger
look-alike of Jack Nicholson You have the details on the map to the left. To
the right, a lovely tree at the meeting point. |
Off we went. Nice, red soil at the stopping
point for a leak or two. Here you have the swastika, an old
Buddhist's sign, used long before the Nazis. If you watch closely, you see
the hooks of the swastika goes the other way. |
An Indian, hard at work on the red bricks of
Goa. They just cut them out of the ground and use them as is. The red color
is due to the high iron content. There is a lot of traffic
on the roads. Mostly transporting iron ore bound for Red China. |
Arne Traagstad to the left and the common cow in the
middle. A very important person at the road side stop. The
loo lady. Her name is Chirstina. |
Then off the main road. Up the river.
They say, No Feeding of the Monkeys, but sold stacks of bananas and peanuts
for the monkeys. The didn't like them, so Martin ate most of them. Peanuts
tasted like peas. |
Last toilet stop before the jeep safari up to
the water falls of Dudhsagars.
Nice creeks we crossed in the jeep. |
Another river, downstream from the Dudhsagars
water fall. The road was very rough. Here are some samples
of the kind of ground be passed. |
Firs view of Dudhsagars water falls.
This is one of the indigenous trees of the tropical jungle. Martin is posing
proudly. |
More detailed view of the road you had walk over
up the the water falls. Monkeys were well fed and choosy.
Not the right ripeness of your bananas, you got it back in your face. |
Another difficult customer. The
grand view of Dudhsagars water falls. |
Martin and Arne Traagstad, alias Jack Nicholson posting in
front of the water falls. The bottom of the waterfall where
Martin managed to swim some 300 meters. |
The pond itself where Martin splashed around.
A little bit of posing doesn't hurt. |
Martin and the waterfall. More
Martin. He likes some self digging. ;-) |
The railway bridge above the waterfall.
A train crossing the bridge while we where there. Martin likes the yellow
train. Looks nice towards the mountain., |
A monkey gobbling up all the bananas from the
tourist. Martin ate most of them himself. Blue train
crossing the bridge above the waterfall. |
Mort blue train. Non-plastic
zone. Particular the Russians don't care much for the environment. Therefore
this sign. |
There they are. Russians on picnic in the middle
of Goa's jungle, slobbering on the own local, dirt cheap rum. They behave
like the Germans did in the 50ties. A lovely sight. An
Indian beauty sitting next to the river from the waterfall. |
Back on the main road, two Danish girls get an
unwelcome guest in the form of a big, whit cow. The Indian
lunch was OK with the standard goodies from India. |
Three happy chaps, Martin, Arne and a third
Norwegian. Arne mounting his elephant girlfriend, 75 years
young. |
Arne loves his new girlfriend.
The elephant knows the difference between cool cash and paper. Only cash is
acceptable. |
Arne is generous, giving more than one bill. His
girlfriend enjoys that. Here she is saying goodbye to us
all. |
The local outhouse with a big hole in the ground
to do your business. Nice setup if you have strong legs.
Back in Arpora, the traffic is as usual. Chaotic. |
Just before turning in to the hotel, the sun
set. It was a lovely and eventful day. Ellen and her local tailor. Ellen
got a decent pair of church trousers and ditto sleeveless top that could
take additional T-shirts, correct for the occasions Ellen has to play for. |
