Packing up in Jomtien. Suza and Lai doing the hard work.
Suza's car. |
Suza has gotten 4 new ladies for his car. A
short stop for a leak closer to Bangkok. |
Martin's favorite toilet just
outside Bangkok. It is a toll road office.
Downtown Bangkok. |
View of Bangkok.
Arriving at The Ambassador Hotel. |
View from the room. We got a
different room this time, 353, not 363 that was booked for 3 months.
Another view towards the pool area with the king in front. |
Martin on the bed with his PC.
The room 353 from the inside. |
February 20th, time to
visits cousin Arild in On Nut. |
To the left, you have Martin on Arld rooftop
and some pictures taken from the 12 story high residential block that Arild
lives in at On Nut. |
The view from the roof
top is nice and relaxing. Arild and Martin is
having a quiet moment on one of the tables on the roof. |
Satellite dish for
international TV. Rubbish from some other place
on the roof. Martin couldn't figure out where it came from. |
Nice view from the top.
There is a big pond next to the block of flats. |
Plenty with greenery on
the roof top. But it could be more. It is a nice space but little used.
The neighbors down below. |
Arild in his new flat.
He just bought for a reasonable price, some US $ 35.000,-. Not bad. |
Martin and Arild in the
overcrowded living room. Arild is getting ready
for dinne. |
Arild, Jiratip and
Martin at the dinner table. Jiratip makes a very
good chicken soup. |
Zav or Sun was not at
his shop, but his brother was. On the way back,
Martin got a ride with this guy. And he did not overcharge Martin. |
This is the bill Martin
got. Some 139 bath instead of the 320 that Suza charges. Not nice for Suza.
The next day, time to visit China Town with Arild and Jiratip. Lai in the
Ambassador before leaving. |
One of Bangkok's
landmark. Martin doesn't have a clue what it means.
We took the Sky Train to Mo Chit. Arild was there. |
Lai waiting at Mo Chit
waiting for Arild. The parking lot at the end
station of this line of the Sky Train. |
A lot of traffic.
Lai is watching the traffic as well. |
The charges for taxis
for long trips. Suza is grossly overcharging.
This nice cab driver gave Martin a good offer for a trip to River Kwai. |
Alt last, we got to
China Town. Lai is very happy. Arild is getting
into the heavy water after a long walk. |
Lai with the dumplings
we had. The girls didn't like the food much. Lai
and Martin. |
Time to walk around.
Chestnuts being cooked. They taste like potato.
Here is a stack of crabs. Not Martin's favorite. |
Happy Thail ladies.
They have found their ATM machines. Jiratip and
Arild in front of a mural menu at
Shangarila Jawaraj Restaurant. A very posh place with extreme prices. |
On the way back, we
wanted to take a boat trip to the nearest Sky Train.
It was like a bus. |
It was very spacious
inside the boat. Some fancy building along the
riverbank. |
This small tug pulled 3
large sand barges behind it. Here are the sand
barges. A lot of sand. |
Time to take the Sky
Train back to the hotel. People lining up to get
on board. A very effective transportation vehicle. |
DETAC, the Norwegian
company Telenor uses in Thailand. This is the head quarter.
The Game Bar, Martin's favorite watering hole in BKK. You sit and look down
on the people below. |
Early morning at 0600,
Suza picked us up from The Ambassador. Then
Martin went to the airport and stood in line because the Internet at The
Ambassador was useless. |
Stopover at a snowy
Moscow airport in the evening. We were delayed for an extra 4 hours and
Martin did not reach his train, arriving at mid-night.
Arriving at Oslo airport at midnight on the 22nd of February. Martin had to
sleep over at a Norwegian price @ US $ 200,- for the night. The total cost
of air-travel was US $ 400,-, a return ticket to Bangkok from Oslo. Norway
is expensive. Martin will try to get a refund from Aeroflot. |
Park Inn at Gardemoen where Martin stayed the night.
It was night and expensive with nice, clean and efficient rooms with all the
goodies you expect from a high class hotel. This is the room. |
The view from the room.
The 23rd was a nice winter day in Norway.
Martin with his PC in the room. The Internet was fast. |
The gangway to the
lifts. The breakfast was excellent. Martin ate
his favorite, not obtainable in Thailand, pickled herring for a bread
spread. |
Back at WestWood. Not
much snow here and this is Karma's rubbish left behind. |
