Summing it all up.

Martin, not completely recovered, did spend most of the day in bed while Eli was having a trip to the beach.

To the left, a local supermarket not owned by the Americans in the middle of the tourist area.

To the right, the beer counter that was filled with all local and some foreign beers.

But since it was Sunday, it closed at 1400 hours. Laws similar to Norway.

But then you had the local shops around the corner. They didn't mind.

Anne-Lise and Odd from Kløfta outside Oslo, a couple in the same hotel as Martin and Eli stayed in.

The cop car cruised around to keep tab on everything. Comforting to know. The tourist area where heavily guarded. Tourist industry is the only form of employment in this area and they cannot risk anything happening to their golden goose, the tourists that lay their golden eggs.

Linda, the rep for Apollo Travel agency selling guided tours. Apollo have this funny policy for their tours:
  1. The price is in US $ not local currency.
  2. They then convert the dollars into your local currency at a rate detrimental to you.
  3. And to add insult to injury, they then add an administrative fee on top of this paying with credit cards.

Only stupid tourists would go for this. Particularly gullible Norwegian tourists. They always get screwed by everyone, on an individual basis and on a national level. Square-heads American call Norwegians, and rightly so.

So what do you do?

  1. Most cards have a handling fees while drawing cash.
  2. Draw on your card the currency that you are to pay in. So then the greedy Apollo or any travel agency
    1. Get their dollars
    2. Cannot give you a lousy exchange rate
    3. Cannot add an extra administrative fee for handling your card, be it debit or credit card.
There is always one local bank that let an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) dispense US $. Ask your guide.

The next day, Monday Feb 5th, it was time for another trip to the beach.
