Summing it all up.

The people:
What makes a trip in addition to the country is the people you meet and Martin met many persons from all walks of life. And with few exception, all of them were friendly when they know you pay. But French. They are content being French and the rest of the world doesn't really matter to them.

Frenchmen in general love themselves and their language. But Martin played his trick as a stupid tourist from Norway. Saying he was there the learn the language, most French became very friendly. Sometimes. At other times, they get irritated because you don't speak it well enough. A very good example was Martin's last dinner in France.

One exception was Roger, patient and really took his time to improve on Martin's French.

After an 8 month stay from 73 to 74, Martin's French was very rusty, but he picked it up very fast and Martin enjoyed it. But it was tiresome and a better idea is to attend some classes, but it's not really worth the trouble.

Otherwise, the landscape had some similarities to the land around the Cape peninsula in South Africa with wine yards and grapes.

Was it worth the time and money? Maybe. Martin is not sure. The country is too expensive to travel in.

The European Championship
The shoot was OK. Nothing spectacular. It's a kind of fashion show where the guys show off their equipment, fancy guns and dresses. And like peacocks, they all try to look so coooooooooool. The testosterone in oozing all over the place. Tiresome at times. The sport is very narcissistic. After the shoot, they look at videos of themselves shooting. Self diggers is another word for the same thing.

Lessons learned at the range these four days: Martin is not good at

  1. Shooting single handed, be it strong or weak
  2. Shooting swingers and bobbers..
  3. Shooting on the move
  4. Target with non-shoots.

But Martin is good at hitting the targets while the time is there, therefore Martin will:

  1. Stick to the 9mm
  2. Practice bobbers
  3. Not shoot on the move
  4. May give up shooting altogether. Of 4 days at the range, you actively shoot for some 25 minutes. Worth it?
    At a cost of some € 2 000,-?

So will Martin go to the Check Republic to participate in the Extreme Euro Open next year? Or the World Shoot at Bali in Indonesia? Time will show.
