Summing it all up.

An hectic, wet, busy, frustrating and rush visit to Rome, the eternal city. Never again.

To the left, a detailed map of Civitavecchia, close to Rome.

To the right, the overview of the trip. Just to put you in the picture where you are for the time being.

Taking the train to Rome for a change. May Augusta in the foreground.

Martin happily seated next to Martin L on the train.

May A and Trude across for the Martins.

Trude with her lovely scarf disembarking in Rome after an hour on the train.

Rome welcoming you with pissing rain from the skies.

Colosseum, the biggest piece of rubble in Rome. A tourist magnet.

Martin outside Colosseum which is very well barred off for non-paying tourists.

A piece of genuine old Roman road outside Colosseum.

The Martins didn't want to spend scarce time in a queue to watch the rubble from the inside. So we just watched the queue.

Some new construction added during the last centuries to Colosseum.

Here, last century, red bricks look nice.

A close-up of the red bricks. Martin was fascinated by this daring construction.

Arc of Triumph, the original ones. You can even watch a quick video (35 MB) of the area and the connection to the Colosseum. But use WinAmp if Microsoft's MediaPlayer isn't up to it.

Leftovers from the aqueducts supplying Rome with water during the olden times.

An hotel with the Italian, Spanish and European flag. Nice and international inclined.

Off to the St. Peter's Church, we passed a big hole. Rome has grown on its rubbish 4 meters the last two millenniums. Not as Cairo, that has grown twice that.

The Spanish stairs seen from the top-

View from the top.

More stairs.

At last at the bottom of the stairs.

Nice stone figures.

Inside St. Peter's Church.

St. Peter's square. Peter really left his mark on this town.

Off to the other side in whipping wind and horizontal rain. Pleasant.

At last we managed to get indoors and sit down in a nice, cozy restaurant of the Italian kind. Trude, May A and Martin at the table.

Martin and May A enjoying a joke. May had some sense of humor from time to time.

The square of Peter's.

More square of Peter's. Wet and windy. Not nice.

The Pop's pulpit seen here. Where he gives his talks from time to time.

Seating for some 10 000 people. Not bad for this joint.

Then into the cathedral itself. Another grandiose piece of building.

Inside the cathedral itself. Much of the same.

The pop's junk shop at the exit. Money talks and can save your sole (kidding, I mean soul!)

If you haven't had a enough of old rocks from ancient Rome, have a look at Rome Ruins & Colosseum.

The next day, Wednesday, May 21st, it was time for next leg to Alghero on Sardinia, also a part of Italia. And this time, no more trips. Martin has gotten his gutful.
