Summing it all up.

Background:
It's three years since last time Martin visited South Africa, a  vast country, rich on natural resources of all kind, a fantastic climate and friendly people.

SA is a great tourist country worth a visit. But when tourists, individuals and groups get attacked by armed robbers every day, will tourists still come? There are daily incidents of rape, murders and muggings of tourists. During the first half of 2006, 51 people daily were murdered, mostly blacks.

The people:
What makes a trip in addition to the country is the people you meet and Martin met many persons from all walks of life. And with one exception, all of them were friendly. The only exception was Daphne, Johnny's wife that really has become an old, unpleasant nag-bag.

Ina's friends in the Group are all true believers and had a nice farewell party for Martin and gave him some lovely presents for his departure. Great.

Changes:
In Johannesburg and the big cities the whites are prisoners in their own home. And incidents of how people are mugged, robbed and murdered are rife. Personally, Martin met one of Bob's friends, Roy that was burglarized 3 times and almost once killed at knife point. He knew the perpetrator, his name and address and the cops did nothing. The think that the whites don't deserve any better. The reverse apartheid is rampant and for everyone to see.

Firearms:
To get a legal firearm is almost impossible in SA today. The idea seems to be to disarm the whites so they can be easier killed during the big Uhuru which is predicted by some. More details on the net if your are interested.

And when it's forbidden for normal tourists to arm themselves, who has the arms? Only the crooks because the cops are never there when they are needed. And actually arms them. One police station got 60 000 firearms handed in during the year, but at year's end half were missing. This due to dishonest cops that take the weapons and sell them to crook.

Special Report on SABC TV2 got within an hour, offers for illegal firearms. A pocket pistol at ZAR 250,- (€ 1,- = ZAR 9,-), a military/cop type 9mm pistol, ZAR 500,- and an AK47, fully automatic rifle with a full magazine, ZAR 750,-. The biggest supplier of illegal firearms to criminals are the cops themselves. Great.

Affirmative action - the scourge of present day South Africa:
In practice this is reverse apartheid. If you are applying for a job, you will get the job if you have a non-white face. Qualifications comes second. Will you fly SAA with an affirmative action pilot whose main qualification is his non-white face? This leads to Bob's Words of Wisdom further down. Corruption hardly ever discussed on radio. Everyone is in on the take. As long as there is something to take.

When incompetent non-white managers are fired for doing nothing but getting a fat salary and ditto bribes, the discussion is always about demographic distribution and ethnic belonging. Not about getting the job done.

Getting the job done by the person best qualified is not an issue. The result is that in the long run, everybody looses, and young educated whites have but one option, leaving the country.

I foresee that around 2035, SA will be an economical ruin and in the same sad state as present day Zimbabwe. A country that exported food up to 7 years ago and now all the stupid numskulls in Western Europe must feed the people while the clown of a president, Mugabe lives in untold luxury in his vast estates in Salisbury.

The news just said that 50% of today youngster will contract aids over the next 20 years. What a bleak future.

Bob's Words of Wisdom.

The level of corruption, bribery, incompetence and stupidity at all levels of government in SA from the smallest municipalities to the highest level of government is unimaginable for anyone that has not lived in South Africa.

Martin's to-do list.

  1. Contact Dept of Foreign Aid about tree planting in Soweto.

  2. Article about World Soccer Championship in 2010.

Martin's experience.

  1. Manual for camera. Needed to learn some more.

  2. Biotex for washing clothes

  3. New rucksack

  4. Use Windows XP or home, not Server. Too much hassle.

  5. Triangular tooth picks.

Back to the beginning.
