To the left, a detailed map of Villefranche sur Mer.
To the right, the overview of the trip. Just to put you in the picture where
you are for the time being. |
At Villefranche, they didn't have queues to go into so you
used barges like these ones.
Martin L coming down the gangway.
Martin T has camped with him before. They met
at Malta in 2007. |
Our ship on the anchorage some meters from the shore.
Villefranche which actually means Place of no taxes. Historical
dating back to the days of pirates. |
On to Monaco. Even though Monaco is a sovereign state, there
are no border controls between France and Monaco. Real
estate is really expensive and the buildings are real cliff-hangers. |
Martin next to the first Garibaldi that founded Monaco from
Italy, disguised as monks. They are still ruling today. At
the gun embankment of the palace of Monaco. |
View from the castle. In the middle of the picture is a nice
roof garden. And here to the right, you have a close-up.
Cute. |
The main castle where the prince lives. Monaco is so small
that it cannot call themselves a kingdom, so they call their ruler a prince.
Changing of guards outside the castle. |
Marching back to the barracks. The flower
called Birds of Paradise on a tree at the entrance. |
Map over Monaco. Not much to talk about. The
car museum of the Prince. More than 200 cars have been collected here over
the years. |
Outside the famous casino. A luxury yacht at
the harbor. It costs up to € 1000,- a day just to lie there. |
The seaside of the casino. In the garden
around the casino, you have an American palm tree. Very impressive. |
The casino entrance. Closed to the public this day.
A lovely flowerily arrangement in the garden with a big mirror to enhance
the beauty of the flowers. |
Martin's most expensive beer so far in his life. A pint or
half a liter cost € 12,- or 10 English pounds.
The most famous café for Monaco, Le Café de Paris, Monaco.
Famous prices as well. |
Back to our ship. Thomson Spirit which got big brother
company that dwarfed the Spirit. Royal Caribbean lines as
can be seen here. |
On ship, grub is always in great demand, which also can been
seen by all the big bellied Englishmen onboard. The two Martins having a
beer. |
