On Sep 14, we took a trip to the South-Western point of the island also better knows as Crete's answer to the Maldives in the Indian ocean.

Click for a better view of Elafonissi, a fantastic beach with nice crystal clear water.

To the left, we are up in the mountains for an hour.

To the right, a short 20 min stop before carrying on.

And chestnut trees was a nice break to all the olive trees across the island.

And pleasant it was.

The mountain view as we travelled across the steep valleys of the Crete's interior.

And the colours changed all the time.

Her it is more desert like before we came to the sea. After a short and steep decent.

And here the famous beach on Crete, Elafonissi. Superb for swimming.

May B is getting ready for dip in the drink.

And the sun was very nice and hot. Umbrellas for shade was essential. At € 7.- a day for two. OK price. Neither cheap nor espensive.

Out to swim.

And using goggles with normal glass strength, made the whole experience much more pleasant. Swam for some 72 minutes in three lost covering some good 2000 meters. Standard exercise load a day to keep up the fitness.

The beach was wide and far stretched both ways.

And plenty of refreshments tills where you could all the basic drinks and foodstuff.

And before we hopped onto the bus, everybody had to have a leak.

And this time we stopped at a viewpoint at one of the gullies on Crete. The longest one is 18 km and 300 meters steep.

Straight down is stomach wrenching look.

And they have two tunnels on the island. This is one of them. Due to geological activity, the collapse after a few years. This one takes one bus at a time and is one-way only.

Here, with the backdrop of the ravine and the tunnel, May B and Martin  T had a rest before the last leg home to our cosy hotel.

The next day, we loafed around our local beach.
