Summing it all up.

Aug 22, German sausages Bei Otto
The pictures below are thumbnails, meaning they are small copies of the real thing. You just click on the thumbnails, and you get the full picture in a separate window. Back to start.

Time for some sightseeing and German sausages.

To the left, a happy Jaa relaxing on the bed after breakfast.

Then off to with boat to some great sightseeing of temples in Bangkok.

Waiting for the boat to arrive. The canal seen here in the background.

City view of the canal.

Our boat arriving.

The layout of the boat. Mostly Thai people. Very few farangs (foreigners).

An half empty business block in downtown Bangkok.

Apartments along the canal.

More apartments.

And more.

Out boat stop, the Wat Saket (Golden Mount) temple. See the link for details.

Fanciful bus outside the temple grounds.

One of the fanciful buildings inside the Wat Saket compound.

The entrance to the compound.

Martin and Jaa outside the grounds of Wat Phra Kaeo & Grand Palace close to the river Chao Phraya.

Jaa and Martin same place.

Queuing up for tickets. Only non-Thai people had to pay entrance. Thai people entered for free.

Walking the streets of Wat Phra Kaeo & Grand Palace.

One of the spectacular towers.

Wat Phra Kaeo & Grand Palace seen from a distance.

Inside the compound of Wat Phra Kaeo & Grand Palace.

One of the guards outside which dwarfs Martin.

Golden details.

A sacred temple on the grounds inside.

Another magnificent construction of sorts.

Fancy columns to an entrance.

Ornament details. Amazing what kind of time consuming work was done on these buildings.

A tired Martin with a nice fellow. Walking in the blistering heat in the middle of the day tires you rapidly.

Reconstruction work on the murals with gold paint.

A tough job that requires patience and skills.

The Thai flag seen here in the foreground.

A modern day guard outside the palace.

Time to relax with some water, food and beers at an air-conditioned little restaurant. Great.

The Thais are very loyal to their royal family seen here on the wall.

Martin loves chop sticks.

Getting bottled up with another local beer, The Singha. Great beer by the way.

Martin is digging in.

Trip to the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok.

Time for more visits. Here is The Reclining Buddha.

Martin at Buddha's toes.

Giving offerings to Buddha in a very peculiar way. One small coin at time and 100 of them.

Martin being interviewed by tourists students of Thailand, wanting to know what you think of Thailand.

Happy interviewers after the job is done.

A really hot job in the blistering heat of the day. Cannot be any fun.

Martin and one of the old guards of the palace.

Another fancy building on the compounds.

No shoes allowed inside the temples.

Martin and Jaa at one ornament outside the temple.

Big guns outside the palace.

Back to the canal.

Jotun is well represented in Thailand.

Oncoming sister boat.

Greenery along the canals.

Full throttle after start up.

Nice canal view.

Entering the boat is a risky business.

Sewage pipes in the air instead under the canals.

The ticket collector has a tough job collecting money from the passenger.

Martin on the boat back to the hotel.

Martin as active tourist taking pictures.

Oncoming sister boat.

Well fenced in are these buildings.

High waves from oncoming boat.

The Baiyoke Sky Hotel that was to be visited by Jaa and Martin the next day.

The boats are usually full.

At night, it was time for a visit to a German restaurant, Bei Otto. German outfit shown here.

Martin ogling a big German glass.

Down the hatch. A very nice taste, Singha.

Typical German pub.

Otto has his own glasses made.

German sausages with a knuckle tasted well. Not the potato dumpling that followed.

Martin an Jaa after the meal.

Jaa and the manageress of the pub in lieu of Otto.

Back to the Ambassador hotel for a night cap.

Nice flower upset in the lobby.

The singing girl performed well and song one of Martin's favorite, The Long Winding Road, by the Beatles.

Jaa having a long drink as a night cap.

The nice, friendly staff of The Dickenson Pub at the Ambassador.

Martin having a swing with the singer.

A young artist to be from the UK.

Back to Martin's favorite room, 363 for a close of a lovely day.

The next day, Saturday, Aug 23rd Jaa and Martin had a nice lunch with Tukta's sister and daughter Love at the Baiyoke Sky Hotel in downtown Bangkok. See the link for details.
