Jan 5, Phanom Rung Historical Park

Phanom Rung is one of Thailand’s most amazing Khmer architecture site, aged over a thousand years old. Built on an extinct volcano, it was originally a Hindu religious site and later became a Buddhist one. Several additions were made during the 15th-18th Buddhist century.

What hits you are all the steps up to the main building.

Lai and Mama took their time.

Some info on the place.

Endless stairs. They say it is some 700 of them.

And it is tiresom to climb for and old bloke like Martin. Boss with the back-pack.

A holy cow of some sort.

The architecture is quite impressive.

The 15 doors of the temple. You can see straight through all of them and towards some stellar objective.

A distance view of the 15 doors. The temple faces east and the sun shines through all 15 sanctuary doorways four times a year : During sunrise from 3 to 5 April and 8 to 10 September and sunset from 5 to 7 March and 5 to 7 October.

It was easier to walk down the stairs.

The bush in front is nice.
